CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) The C.H.A.M.P/GEAR UP program is a program that prepares the youth for Uni and college. Derrick Gallashaw is the assistant director of the program inside of Rowan University in Camden NJ. It was founded by the late Dr. Eric Clark in 1985.

I was a student in the program as a youth, so I think that it’s safe to say that it’s an ultra successful program. I think that one of the reasons it’s been as successful as it has been for so long, is because of the environment.

What’s safer, and more advanced than having 6 – 12th graders inside of a University setting before their time? Personally I’m a product of that program, and if it weren’t for it, I may have not graduated high school.

I graduated high school because I knew that If I didn’t keep a certain grade point average, the C.H.A.M.P/Gear Up program would have never allowed me into it.

Finally after graduating high school, I came back to the program to be a counselor for a little while.

Parents if your child attends middle school or high school in the city of Camden NJ, then Rowan University’s C.H.A.M.P/Gear Up program is an excellent way to help them succeed.
